Varahi River Kayaking-Dec2-Dec 5 2005

After a long long gap of 9 months I'm back doing what I love doing the most. Lots of people had heard about the place and wanted to be there, but I was one of the lucky four in my friends circle to go to the varahi nadi Kayaking. The CAT exams were over and I was looking forward to go out. Adi, chetu, ysh and myself left for Agumbe. It was the most strenous trip that I had ever taken so far. We travelled travelled and just travelled through out the trip. When we reached Agumbe we were surprised to see that Agumbe doesn't even have a proper bus stand. We had thought that Agumbe was a good tourists spot.

Over that, the problem of naxalites in this area doesn't let people trek in this region.
Then we decided to go to Hebri which is just 4km from the Sita nadi nature camp. We reached Hebri, got into a lodge(you have very little choice here). We got freshened and finished our breakfast and were ready for a bumpy ride. We took an auto to the most ecstatic waterfall called "Koodala Theertaha". It was nearly 20km ride from Hebri. Auto can be used for a terrain region. We trekked for nearly 2km and found ourselves amidst The last 5km of the ride prooved that even an the most beautiful waterfalls I had ever been. The place is enclosed with rocks on the three sides and a sectoral opening to enjoy the blue sky lying in the chill water. I also liked this place as there was absolutely no risk. However we didn't dare to get beneath the falls as it was falling from a height of 100-150 ft and it would have been really tough to stand below it.
spending 2 hours of time in the water we trekked back to the place where the "Terrain" Auto was waiting. Before reaching Hebri we stoped the bus that was heading to Shringeri-the sharadamba's home. But we couldn't be there at lunch time. The temple opened at around 5:00 pm. Had darshan of the Sharadamba, fed puris and bread peices to the fishes in the Tunga river and left for Hebri. The transport in canara district is aaaaaawwwwsome(deepthi isshtyle). Every 10mins you get a bus to whichever place you want to go. But that wasn't the case from shringeri to hebri. We were just in time to get the last bus to Hebri. We went to the bed very late after a short sitting. The next day morning a vehicle was jacket). The moment we were all waiting for was her. Got into the water. sent to pick us up from Hebri to Nature camp. From the nature camp we left for the point from where we were to startAfter the event. We got in to the kayaking gear(helmet, swim wear and lifeInitially we were asked to understand what was happening with our kayake. I had chetu with me and adi and ysh had teamed up. Then the group started towards the first of the 4 rapids. We were all exited as it was the first one we were going to see. We got away with the first one and were asked to park our kayakes after passing the rapid. Chetu and I were paddling in tandem while Adi and ysh were still yelling right right ... left right. After being in water for 2 hours we stopped for lunch. Finished our lunch and the triangular love story began which according to our boyzz was a quadrangular one as even I dared crossing the river through the strong currents swimming. Then we continued with our paddling enjoying each of the rapids. After crossing all the rapids, we had reached the culmanating point. we got out of the water and had a few shots with the entire team. We also had the photo shoot of the upcoming model(see photo). Then we left for kundapur. We reached there at 6:00 and ysh wanted to go to marvanthe beach. We knew it would be late but still went to the beach but was very late and it was pitch dark and we couldn't see anything. Back to kundapura, we had collect the tickets to bangalore. Thanks to udupi for getting the tickets booked for us sitting in the bangalore. Got our tickets by 7:15 and we also had one more place in our trip sheet- Udupi. The bus to bangalore was to depart kundapur at 8:30. We still left for Udupi. Reached there at 8:30 had a quick darshan of Sree Krishna. Finished our lunch in the temple itself and left for the bus stand. It was 10 in the night and the bus from kundapur just arrived. Huggghhhhhhhhhhh we just managed to reach there.......
Adi was planning to come back to this place next week.
