kodachadri - place where Shankaracharya visited before moving to kerala

places visited: kollur, kodachadri, Sita nadi rafting, sigandur.

who all: naresh, hari, prasanna, manju, senthil, jagga, raju, kumar, vishal, myself,

time to trek: 2 - 2 1/2 hours

First place of visit was a usual the TCS SJM towers. Had to wait for Hari. reached Hebri in the morning. The drive through the Agumbe ghats was very scary. People been there will know this better. Had breakfast in some hotel and left for the Sita nadi nature camp. I had already done kayaking last year in this river. The stretch where kayaking and rafting is done are different.
It was drizzling and there were 3 more groups. After the instruction from Manju(the trainer from adreno), we took our rafts into the stream. Initially we were taught to use the pedals. The rapids weren't that impressing. I feel kayaking is a better option at Sita nadi. Finished rafting at around 1. That was when I got to capture this beauty. Then we left to Kodachadri. en route had our lunch.

Reached the base point at around 4. It was raining heavily. This was my first trek in rain. I wore sandals instead of shoes. This was one big mistake. The rain got heavier and heavier as we climbed. I didn't want to stop anywhere because of the leeches. Already there were leeches on my legs and if I stop there would be many more. Senthil kept spraying axe on my legs. and it was very effective. At any point of time, there were more than 10 leeches on my feet. The fear of leeches kept me driving until the top. Finally we reached a house(can call it as Batta's Mane). The first thing every one did was pull out leeches from there feet. Raju luckily didn't had any bites, unit he found that there was one big one on his tummy.

Had bisi bisi coffee. Hari the cook, started off with his cooking. We had carried maggi, MTR ready to eat packets. All of us ate the food Hari had prepared except prasanna. Might be prasanna didn't like Hari's food. He ordered for a full meals and there were four more persons having meals. Prasanna had meals with these guys. It was as if, he was one among them. Finished his dinner and silently came and slept where we had spread the tarpaulin.

Prasanna was clever enough to make those guys pay his bill. As the saying goes "tit for tat", he lost his Jacket. We were very sure that those guys would have flicked it in return for the meal they paid for.

In each trek there will be one hot discussion. The topic of this trek was "story of Devdas". They were all on high (not exactly). Rohit(name changed) was in full form and kept saying that Simran(name changed) was his. He was ready to do anything for her. But as bollywood stories goes, she was already in love with Amyth(name changed). But our hero Rohit was confident that Simran was his and only his. This scene is better experienced than explained.

The ceiling of the place where we slept, wasn't properly covered with canvas. The rain drops kept falling through out the night. By morning, all our legs, sleeping bags and bed sheets were drencehed. We were served bed coffees. We had a very delicious and healthy breakfast- Jack fruit.

Then we left to the Peak. It was again raining. Reached there, spent very little time there.
The wind there really strong. There was a sculpture of Shankaracharya inside the small temple like structure.

Came back to batta's house. Packed our luggage and started climbing down.

On on our way back, we got to know that it was Vishal's birthday. Sang a song for him. IF we knew it before, we thought we could have cut the cake on the Peak.

At the base point, we thought for a moment whether to go to Kollur or sigandur. Decided to leave to Sigandur. There is an aesthetic temple of Goddess Durga. It is also very clean.

Now comes the interesting part of the trip, we traveled over a launch from Sigandur to Sagara. The launch was really huge and could carry two buses, around 4 four-wheelers, along with the two-wheelers and the passengers. Was half-an-hour journey but was memorable one. Was the first time I traveled over a launch.

Guys were busy taking photos. I sat quitely enjoying the ride in the back water.

Once we got down from the launch, few us got to ride the tempo traveler. Had early-dinner at Sagara and left for bangalore.

Kodachadri more than a trekking spot is a religious place. Lot of keralites visit this place. Best time would be after the monsoon. If you don't want to trek in the rain then October - February is the best season.
